FILMS AND TALKS
There will be a number of individual talks by our panellists and others after the panel discussion, covering issues such as the political economy of power, the link between human and animal exploitation, war on war, permaculture, how hands on work with animals changes the way people think about animals, political struggle from an anarchist perspective, the effects of urban encroachment and development on wildlife, etc.
Simultaneously, we will be screening a number of films, including 'Earthlings' (a look at the exploitation of animals by humankind), 'Life and Debt' (a critical analysis of the role transnational organisations like the IMF and World Bank played in the destabilising of Jamaica), 'A Drop of Life' (set in the near future, this is the story of two women, a village teacher in rural India and an African American corporate executive whose disparate lives intersect when they are both confronted with lack of access to clean drinking water), 'Behind the Mask' (a powerful documentary that advocates direct action intervention as opposed to just lobbying and reformism in the political arena), a compilation of Anti-Privatisation Forum protests around water and housing, and 'An Intimate Interview with Dr Steve Best' (Rattle the Cage Productions).
