Animal Rights film festival

22 - 24 Nov 2007

Beauty Without Cruelty invites you to the launch of the first South African Animal Rights film festival on Thursday, November 22nd at FURTHER: 21st Century Counterculture Shop, located at 1 Olifants Road, cnr. 5th Avenue, Emmarentia (next door to Earth2 Vegan Restaurant).

ABOUT THE FILMS:
Several acclaimed documentary films, along with a wide range of informative shorts, will be screened. The films we have selected encompass a wide range of opinion and research spanning the personal and public views of scientists, activists, victims, farmers, and consumers on controversial issues relating to our relationships with animals.

These films give a voice to the animal voiceless and challenge us not only to to recognise animals as sentient beings but also to make ethical choices in our daily lives regarding our treatment of animals.

Our first feature is 'Behind the Mask', a documentary that highlights the individual struggles of men and women who sacrifice personal safety and security to save the lives of animals. This film features Keith Mann, a highly respected animal rights activist and liberationist, whom we are proud to host as our main speaker at the festival.

We are also very proud to announce that we have also been given permission for a once-off screening of the most controversial and informative chronicle of man's economic dependence on animals; namely EARTHLINGS. This is by far the best film on Animal Rights issues and we urge everybody to try and attend this screening!

TALKS:
In addition to these and other inspiring films, local guest speakers (including Michelle Pickover and Cora Bailey) will address audiences on topics relating to animal ethics before/after the films. Audience participation will be encouraged in question/answer sessions.

Special guest speaker Keith Mann, a well known UK animal rights activist who has been at the forefront of activism for years and has written a book about animal rights, will give a short talk and introduce the film Behind the Mask on the opening night. Keith will be available for a question and answer session after the movie.
